Puppy Clothes

Monday, October 19th, 2009

The range and style of puppy clothes is expanding by the day as this particular line in fashion is becoming ever more popular with dog and puppy owners. This increased demand brings more companies to the fore who are carrying lines in all types of dog and puppy clothing – and this extra competition ultimately brings higher quality cheap puppy clothes.

Traditionally, I think buying clothes for puppies was always seen as a pastime of the rich and famous, mainly because I think, at least when people first started buying puppies clothes, it was the rich celebrity type people who were buying high fashion and designer puppy clothes, and the label seemed to stick – at least for a while.

That trend has now become popular with the not-so-rich-and-famous, simply through the process of people copying the favorite celebrities and idols. You only need to watch Paris Hilton on TV to see her latest acquisitions of dogs and puppies clothes. Most puppies are cute anyway, but when they’re bundled up in the latest fashions like a leather motorcycle jacket or woolly sweater, they look adorable.

From a purely selfish point of view, taking your young puppy for a walk in town is certainly going to attract some attention – either from young children or other dog lovers. However, if you pet is adorned in a designer puppy clothing range, then both of you are going to get a lot of attention. Not that that’s the main reason people cloth their puppies, but it’s certainly a nice side effect.

The main benefit for our dogs, especially if they’re very young or particularly small, is the added insulation and protection from the cold that they’ll get when wearing a cozy dog sweater or something from the warm but cheap puppy clothes. Dog jackets now come in a considerable variety of colors and styles, and are perfect for inclement weather. It means you can still take you pup out for a walk without her suffering from an attack of frostbite on the way home.

Besides the truly functional, a lot of puppy clothing ranges these days are aimed purely at pleasure and just good fun, and quite right too. My daughter loves nothing better than to spend an hour or so on a weekend afternoon playing with and dressing up Suzi, our Chihuahua. And Suzi, bless her, just loves all the extra attention she gets.

So next time you’re buying puppy food in the pet supplies store, take a look down the clothing isle and see what clothes for puppies they stock – you may find the perfect outfit at the perfect price.
